A rain-beaten, soul-devouring novel set among the foggy moors of a Yorkshire manor, this is Emily Bronte’s only novel. It tells of the passionate, all-consuming love between the orphan Heathcliff and his wealthy childhood friend, Catherine Earnshaw. Housed under the same roof, they couldn’t help but for a bond. Years later, though, Heathcliff’s orphan status precludes him from marrying Catherine. Healthcliff vows revenge on all those who stand in his way. The brutal novel came before Bronte’s early death at age 30, long before the book would gain it’s stature of one of England’s classics.
A Thousand Shades of Awesome ! 0 comments 12:04 AM Posted by All About Computer Science Skype for iPhone and iPod touch is about a thousand shades of awesome! Finally, the king of VoIP applications has arrived in the App Store allowing iPhones and yes, even iPod touches, to enjoy free phone calls and instant messaging. The free Skype app isn’t the first VoIP iPhone app to offer this functionality, but it is without a doubt the very best of breed. The interface is responsive and intuitive. The icons are sharp. The audio quality is superb.
Mitsuku wins Loebner Prize 2013 Steve Worswick, botmaster of Mitsuku, was awarded the bronze medal and $4000 cash prize for creating the world's "most human computer" in the Loebner Prize Contest 2013, an annual Turing Test. The contest this year was held at the Ulster University, Magee Campus, Londonderry/Derry, Northern Ireland. Steve Worswick is a native of Yorkshire, UK, and has worked on Mitsuku for 9 years. Mitsuku is based on AIML and hosted at Pandorabots. com. This year the Loebner Prize Contest attracted 15 entries from around the world.
Read More: genetic algorithm , in artificial intelligence. a type of evolutionary computer algorithm in which symbols (often called “genes” or “chromosomes”) representing possible solutions are “bred. ” This “breeding” of symbols typically includes the use of a mechanism analogous to the crossing-over process in genetic recombination and an adjustable mutation rate. A fitness function is used on each generation of algorithms to gradually improve the solutions in analogy to the process of natural selection. The process of evolving the genetic algorithms and automating the selection is known as genetic programming.
Apply Now Algorithms Design of algorithm studies methods and techniques used to develop efficient algorithms. The design of efficient algorithms is often a critical first step in solving problems in many areas. Depending on the model of computation or computer platform that is required for an application, one might draw on algorithmic research in specific subareas. Several CSE faculty members are involved in algorithmic research. Projects Graph Algorithms (He, Ngo) The research on graph algorithms has been a driving force in the field of design and analysis of algorithms.
The UW artificial intelligence group studies the computational mechanisms underlying intelligent behavior. We are active in a wide variety of research areas, including machine learning, natural language processing, probabilistic reasoning, automated planning, machine reading, and intelligent user interfaces. We are one of the top centers for AI research in the world, as demonstrated by our consistently winning paper awards at the top AI conferences and our many faculty awards. For more information, please have a look at our online demos, download one of our released systems, or click on one of the subareas below.
by Richard C. Dieter, Esq. Executive Director, Death Penalty Information Center June 1998 It is tempting to pretend that minorities on death row share a fate in no way connected to our own, that our treatment of them sounds no echoes beyond the chambers in which they die. Such an illusion is ultimately corrosive, for the reverberations of injustice are not so easily confined. -Justice William Brennan (1987) Table of Contents Executive Summary The results of two new studies which underscore the continuing injustice of racism in the application of the death penalty are being released through this report.
